Food Val d'Orcia

Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico, Montepulciano ... Val d'Orcia is the perfect place for a unique journey of experience, to taste and learn all the culinary and gastronomic delicacies of southern Tuscany.

A long voyage through the most famous and renowned wineries in the world, mills, small dairies, organic vegetable gardens and the wonders of Val d'Orcia.

Our journey starts from Montalcino and its surrounding area, famous for the presence of the Sangiovese grape vineyards from which we get the famous Brunello di Montalcino; but not only, you will have the opportunity to taste two DOC wines: Rosso di Montalcino and Sant'Antimo.

Montepulciano, another famous and important center for the worldwide viticulture, is known for Vino Nobile DOCG since 1980, protected by a consortium that brings together all the wineries. Rosso di Montepulciano has the same blend of Vino Nobile but also admits other grapes of the area. Vin Santo di Montepulciano, other excellence, is an excellent dessert wine.

You will discover the secrets of the extra virgin olive oil, its virtues and the durum wheat, the base of the Tuscan table foods.

Along the road that leads to Monte Amiata, in pursuit of the herds of sheep, you will know the shepherds that produce the famous Tuscan cheese on the gentle pastures between Pienza and the Crete Senesi.

Inside Abbadia San Salvatore, you will try a type of stuffed amiatino, the mazzafegato, like sausage and cake Ricciolina, sweet pastry with chocolate, meringue and nuts, sipping liqueur chestnuts and grappa of Monte Amiata. The "gessetti di marcellina" (liquorice inside and mint out) are a treat not to be forgotten!
