| Since the Agritourismo
is located in the centre of the Val d'Orcia,
it is a good starting point from which to visit the many places of tourist,
artistic and cultural interest nearby. The abbey of Sant’Antimo near Montalcino has welcomed the tourists and the pilgrims for many years. History tells us that Charlemagne himself ordered the building of the Abbey on this site when he came here. A place of prayer and rest for both body and soul, where an active community of monks greets the visitors with Gregorian chants and Masses enhanced by the acoustics of the abbey’s naves. From this abbey still passes a stretch of the famous Via Francigena, which was the main route for the pilgrims who headed for the Terrasanta. The hot springs of Bagni San Filippo quietly flow through white sulphur banks which reflect the blue of the sky on clear, sunny days. A continuous chain of little natural pools where you can bathe is surrounded by a characteristic calcareous formation that is similar to a snowy mountaintop glacier. You can get to the area along a suggestive foot path in the green woods which takes you to the natural bath areas with its accompaniment of gurgling waters nearby. The area of Val d’Orcia is famous for its thermal areas, and the hot springs of Bagno Vignoni are of equal importance. In this spot, which has Roman origins, the antique bath (which held the waters that had just emerged from the volcanic rock) can still be seen today; in addition, there are very typical calcarous formations which gave rise to a series of natural hot-spring baths of a milk-white colour. Worthynote is also the village of Castiglion d’Orcia which overlooks the Agritourismo itself. Of particular interest are the central square and the Rocca Aldobrandesca, recently restored, which today can be visited by appointment. From the terrace of the Fortress's tower visitors can enjoy a breath-taking view of the whole Val d’Orcia. Monte Amiata, with its big meadows, woods and villages on its slopes are ideal for summer excursions, walks, trekking on horseback, picnics where you can relax and have fun outdoors and in winter its snowy peaks are suitable for winter sports such as skiing. In the villages, you can discover the typical Tuscan atmosphere with its old-fashioned home made cooking and enjoy a delicious but healthy lifestyle.
